Episode #024: “SHUT UP MISTER MERCER!”

June 3rd, 2009

In this episode of Bearfighting Extravaganza, we talk about tangents, including Bionic Commando, Beneath a Steel Sky, and many other things!
This episode was intended to be short due to the fact the E3 Day 1 was happening while we were recording and is indeed still happening now, and so trying to do “up to date” videogame thoughts would be meaningless while new stuff was coming out every minute.

Dont forget that you can leave comments on this post, e-mail us at feedback@lukeandelliot.com, and also follow our semi-offical Twitter feed here!

Soon after that, it should be our 25th episode, with its special topic! Look forward to it!

    Haha! I have about 8 series of anime that I’ve downloaded but never bothered to watch. XD

    XD! I’ve never played Prince of Persia, but that section of “Mr. Mercer” was fucking hilarious~

    Wind Waker -was- awesome! D: It was amazing, despite being short! I’d rather have a good game that’s a few hours long than 20 billion hours of utter crap (a.k.a. Twilight Princess).
    ARG. Fucking Forest Temple. I hated that place. I’ve never liked the Floormasters. >_>

    @Yoshiken
    Twilight Princess was so much fun. The dungeons took a damn fortnight to beat (don’t even get me started on the Water Temple), but the game was a blast. I’ll admit that being a wolf was lame every time, but I’ve haven’t had that much fun playing as [human] Link in a long time. I’ll have to replay it and do a review on my show. We’ll see if I still love the game the second time around.

    @Elliot
    I love you. “Opera suck, I don’t care.” I have been known to use the Opera browser from time to time, but hearing you hate things so viscerally is always fun. Wind Waker was a lot of fun when I played it the first time. I tried to go back and replay a few months ago and I couldn’t do it. It’s likely due to the fact that I got so used to playing Xbox games that I treated the Gamecube controller as if it was an Xbox controller (that didn’t work out so hot), but nonetheless, I turned the game off in less than an hour.

    @Luke
    I’ve never really talked to you, so I figured as long as I’m addressing others, I might as well. What’s up? Stop playing WOW!

    @Everyone
    I’m not sure if you’ve picked up Red Faction yet, but I’m going to buy it after work. I’m sure I’ll be up until the early hours of the morning playing it. I’ll give you the scope via this weeks podcast. Maybe.

    Also, holy crap, Prototype is coming out in a few days. I don’t know much about it, but the trailer has me very excited. I’m a sucker for gorefests.

    And did I hear you say that you WERE bears at the end of this episode?

    On Wind Waker-
    Dont get me wrong, Wind Waker was a *good* game, but it almost seemed scared of letting you play the core gameplay. To get to the cool dungeon bit, but have to sail here, do this, do that, oh, here is a partner for the dungeon, now we can get rid of the partner- while other zelda games do this all the time I felt it was much more egregious than in other games.

    On Twilight Princess – I gave up before getting to the first damn temple, it took so long. Also, Wii controls did not enhance that game, I think. I wish I could find a GC copy to give it another shot.

    On Opera- I just don’t get on with it. I can accept that it may be a good browser, but every time I try to use it I end up tearing my hair out due to UI or some other reason that drives me up the wall.

    On Red Faction – Wooo, another game I really want but cannot afford! What is with the glut of games? Isnt summer supposed to be crap for games?

    I played Twilight Princess on the Gamecube. I probably would’ve killed myself if I played the Wii version. That game is long as balls, but I tend to forget time exists when I play Zelda games. I know that I fought a dragon somewhere in the middle and I had to call my mom because I was too scared. Hmmm, that sounds a lot less sarcastic when written. I did call her, but it was mostly as a joke. Mostly.

    Ah, yeah, I played it on the Wii. Playing as human!Link was… average. It wasn’t particularly good or bad. The wolf!Link sections, however, pissed me off to no end. Collecting those damn… was it Spirit Drops? The things to purify each area or whatever. I don’t want to run around doing some fetchquest to find some bugs that die in one hit or whatever, just let me on to the actual gameplay!

    @Yoshiken
    I want to blame your average experience on playing the Wii version, but I’ve never even tried it. What I like about the combat was that it was, idk, fluid than the other games. In the other Zelda games if you were running and wanted to swing your sword, the game forced Link to stop running. One thing I really liked about TP is that you could keep running. It’s a really small detail, but it added to my enjoyment of the game quite a bit.
